The Kennishes discover that their attorney may have a conflict of interest.

Emmett moves in with his father and his father's young girlfriend. Bay considers spending the night there.

    Bay gets her first taste of racial prejudice when her grandmother visits and her affection seems to have changed. Daphne is concerned when the girls from her old neighborhood call her an outsider. Toby hits a rough patch with Simone when he listens to Bay's comment that Simone is remodeling him.     When Kathryn gives some money to their witness against the hospital, their lawyer tells her that the woman can no longer testify. So, Kathryn tries to locate another witness. Emmett feels threatened when he learns that Bay has been exchanging e-mails with Ty in Afghanistan. When Daphne's off hand complaint to the Carleton principal gets a student employee fired, Daphne asks John to give him a job at the car wash. Toby must decide whether or not to play with Wilkie at a gig that he lined up or to take a promising opportunity to play solo at a gig that Simone arranged.

    Emmett's mom, Melody puts Bay in a no-win situation when she asks Bay to testify on her behalf so that she can gain full custody of Emmett. Wilkie tumbles to the secret and Emmett confesses to his mom but they all try to keep the others from discovering and being hurt. Meanwhile, Kathryn receives the first chapter of her rival's book and it again raises her suspicions about whether John had an affair.

    Bay starts attending Emmett's school and is met with surprising hostility. Daphne inaugurates her food truck at the car wash and makes great money but when she tries to go back to her old neighborhood to “give back” she's met with hostility. Regina goes to confront Angelo about his new baby but reconsiders when she meets the mother. John Kennish announces his bid for State senate. Emmett tells Toby about a revealing pic of Nikki that someone posted on the band's website.
  • 3. Duel Between Two Women
    Kathryn chafes at being the quiet “good wife” that John's campaign manager wants. Emmett is troubled when Noah, another kid in the hearing pilot program gets too much of Bay's attention. Regina finds out that she must not sign (or cut hair) anymore if she doesn't want to aggravate her wrist problems. Toby offers Lana a ride but a fender bender causes them to spend some time together in the hospital.
  • 4. Dressing for the Charade
    Toby invites Lana (Angelo's new baby mamma) over to the Kennish's for dinner. John's bid for the senate turns nasty when his opponent runs an attack ad featuring Kathryn's immigration comments. Then Immigration is tipped to do a surprise inspection. Meanwhile Daphne tries to talk to Travis's mom about their decision to kick him out on his 18th birthday.

    Daphne feels awkward around Travis while Kathryn offers to work at Carlton.

    While Melody pushes a deaf-pride agenda in her deaf-studies class, Daphne feels that she was targeted for robbery because of her deafness. As Valentine's day approaches, Bay decides to hold an anti-Valentine's party at Angelo's. The parents find out about Daphne's being robbed at the food truck and John sells the truck upsetting both Regina and Kathryn. Angelo lobbies Lana to allow him to raise their baby. Noah has another hearing-loss episode.
  • 7. Drive in the Knife
    Police locate one of the guys who robbed Daphne but Travis wants to exact revenge rather than identifying him. John asks Bay to design a campaign billboard but the campaign manager is not happy with her efforts. Regina locates a dream job but a late night with Zane leads to problems. Toby agrees to work on his dad's campaign but a day spent putting up lawn signs leads to something else entirely.

    Bay is concerned that Regina is drinking again and sets up a dinner with Zane and Regina and Daphne and Noah. Melody is organizing the resistance to the school board's plans to incorporate more hearing kids into Carleton in the the next year. After the first girl quits, Kathryn asks Daphne to take the role of Juliet, throwing Noah and Daphne together a lot. Toby has a difficult talk with his dad after John's opponent informs him about finding her daughter and Toby in a hot-tub.

    In an ASL only episode… Unhappy that the school board has decided to shut down Carleton and mainstream them, a number of deaf kids seize one of the school buildings and set off a fire alarm during the production of Romeo & Juliet. While tensions quickly escalate outside, the deaf kids staging the takeover quickly discover that they don't all agree on what their demands should be.

Chris is torn between wanting to dazzle several baseball scouts at an upcoming game and standing with his fellow students to show solidarity.

    Daphne takes a volunteer job at a clinic for extra credit and comes face-to-face with her old mentor, Dr. Jackson.
