American boy Rob gets Irish girl Sharon pregnant while they hook up for a week while on a business trip to London.

    Can Sharon, ‘an extraordinarily good-smelling woman’, and Rob, ‘a sturdy love-maker’, navigate the thorny situations they find themselves in and still find time for an emergency shag in a stairwell?

    Sharon faces the reality of having a new room-mate in the form of Rob, the man whose child she happens to be carrying. She introduces him to her brother Fergal who gives them both a royal hard time.

    Sharon keeps waking in the night worrying about her pregnancy whilst Rob is having problems generating business for the advertising agency and is relieved to run into Chris, who, on a night out, suggests a career change. Sharon is not encouraging. Sharon herself meets up with old flame Owen, who is now married to a best selling authoress, which makes Sharon feel a failure. Fortunately for her Rob is sympathetic.

    Rob meets Sharon's parents, who are delighted about the engagement but less so about the pregnancy. Worse is to come when Sharon is told that, as an older mother, she runs the risk of giving birth to a Downs Syndrome baby. Rob also has to explain to Fran that Chris is out drinking with him and not having an affair but this too ends in disaster.

    Rob is fired by Skype for failing to bring in enough custom but loose cannon friend Dave gets him an interview - and a job offer- with a chemical firm of dubious reputation. Sharon rings Rob's mother with a wedding invite and is shocked to hear something Rob never told her - that his former girlfriend Betsy had a miscarriage. However after the pair have celebrated Sharon's birthday with friends and relatives they have a heart to heart which clears the air - almost.

    Fergal is delighted to act as Rob's best man but he is also permanently drunk, his wife having left him, whilst Sharon's maid of honour Kate is annoyingly excitable and gets lost on the hen night, having met an eligible man. Rob's stag party, organized by Dave at a pole dancing club, fares no better as Fergal punches Dave and Chris cops off with an old flame who is one of the dancers. At least the wedding goes smoothly but catastrophe strikes on the honeymoon.

    Sharon and Rob are now married with a son and a dog and Sharon is pregnant again. After several false alarms the baby is born, a girl whom they call Muireann and the couple invite friends and family to a very awkward celebratory party where the animosity between Sharon and Rob's mother comes to a head. Next day they make an unfortunate discovery.

    Rob is frustrated when Sharon's doctor advises her to give up sex as treatment for her post-natal depression. He seeks solace with new colleague Olivia until harmless flirting takes a more serious turn. Sharon, meanwhile, feels out of place at the mother and baby class but her dependency on am, the only one to whom she can relate, threatens to end the friendship.

    After Fran tells her that she is splitting up with Chris Sharon decides to inject some romance into her and Rob's life with a romantic trip to Paris. Unfortunately she forgets her breast pump and is unable to express milk and, by the time that she has found one discovers that mixing it with smoking dope can be harmful. Chris meanwhile celebrates his new-found freedom.

    On their third wedding anniversary things are certainly less catastrophic for Sharon and Rob as they celebrate their fidelity with a night out than for their friends as Fran dates the annoyingly possessive Patrick, Chris hooks up somewhat awkwardly with taciturn prostitute Georgina and work colleague Dave's new girlfriend is insistent that he must give up drinking if he wants to see her again.

    Sharon decides to return to teaching but is so nervous she fails the interview whilst Rob inadvertently gets his wish to be a house husband when he quits his job after Olivia claims sexual harassment. Nor is Sharon pleased to learn that Rob has loaned Fergal money but finds a way to make it work in her favour.

    After learning about Olivia Sharon throws Rob out and he goes to stay with Dave, whose life he saves after Dave has one too many binges on drink and drugs. Sharon has a girls' night out with divorced friend Kate, bagging off with the very young Nico and having no recall of the evening next day. She calls Rob up and they reconcile but Rob is convinced that she is keeping something from him.

    Rob picks up where he left off last time, with an unexplained receipt for the morning after pill in his hand and a lot of questions for Sharon. Too drunk at the time to remember what she did, Sharon dodges Rob's interrogation and goes to see Nico perform with his band to find out the truth. Will she tell Rob what actually happened? The issue is unexpectedly forced when one of the kids has an accident.

    Rob and Sharon are still on shaky ground with each other and face challenges in their work lives too. Sharon returns to teaching, leaving Rob looking for a new job while in charge of the school run, where he is immediately embroiled in playground politics. Elsewhere Sharon's brother Fergal is moving to Spain, and while Rob goes to see Dave recovering in rehab, could his own addiction issues be rearing their ugly head?

    Rob and Sharon find themselves facing financial difficulty after hearing bad news from the estate agent. Rob's at an all-time low and tries to battle his weight gain by joining a gym. Sharon's friend Fran is also dealing with vanity issues and tries to kick start a new life with plastic surgery. A last ditch attempt to resolve their money problems results in Rob being humiliated - will it lead him crawling back to his old job?

    A new acquaintance becomes increasingly friendly with Rob, while Sharon dabbles in a new hobby.

    Rob's newly religious sister Sidney visits from the US, and a child's accident at school reveals a surprising teacher-pupil rapport to Sharon
  • 3. Episode 3
    Sharon and Rob decide to get on a fitness drive. When Sharon visits her less-than- sympathetic local GP it dawns on her she's not in the peak condition she imagined.
  • 4. Episode 4
    Rob is pretty unenthusiastic about celebrating brother-in-law Fergal's 40th birthday, while Sharon comes face-to-face with her mum's ‘new man’.
  • 5. Episode 5
    Sharon is unsettled by a strange moisture patch at school, while Rob's big boss visits London and takes a close interest in his career. Fran and Chris make a major decision.
  • 6. Episode 6
    In the final episode, Sharon and Rob arrive in Boston for a family holiday only to receive some tragic news about Rob's mum, Mia. Under pressure, the couple need to negotiate an estranged family member and a ‘grief vampire’, while Rob has a tempting, but complicated offer from an old friend.
